Movie review: Little Manhattan (2005)

I’ve been looking this movie all over places,, dan ga ketemu2, di semua lapak dvd,  ga pernah ada, semua mang2 dvd gua pesenin, ga ada2, mungkin karena film lama dan di indo ga terlalu nge-boom. But after a long quest, I’ve  finally found it!! (thanks to you tube!!)  yipiieee… *\^_^/*. 
I know, I used to be very gaptek with you tube, I didn’t know that we can download a full version movie, I thought that the movie always divided into parts *sigh ..  but hey, we can learn new things everyday, right?.
Anyway, seperti film-film Hollywood kebanyakan, it’s a love story, tapi yang bikin beda, this movie is about first love  from the eye of 10 years old boy in a funny, cute, sweet way. Yang mana bikin bener-bener kerasa “First Love” nya, you know like “First Love” song by Nikka Costa.
Gabe (Josh Hutcherson) berusia 10 3/4 tahun experiencing his first love with Rosemary Telesco (Charlie Ray) yang sebenernya temen sekolahnya sejak TK. Tapi Gabe ga pernah realized Rosemary as a girl, Gabe cuman nganggep Rosemary hanya sebagai teman sekolah, sampai Gabe ikut kursus karate yang ternyata Rosemary juga ikut kursus itu, dan mereka dipasangkan untuk jadi sparing partner. And suddenly his whole life turns upside down and filled only with Rosemary.
Kehidupan Gabe dan Rosemary berbeda 180 derajat, orang tua Gabe sedang dalam proses cerai selama 1,5 tahun terakhir, tapi karena belum resmi mereka masih harus tinggal serumah. Karena terlalu lama, ibu Gabe, Leslie (Cynthia Nixon) mutusin untuk berkencan lagi, so it makes the situation more complicated for Gabe. Sedangkan Rosemary punya keluarga kaya dan harmonis yang tinggal di apartemen mewah di pinggir Central Park.
Selama 2,5 minggu Gabe mulai ngerasa rasa suka pada Rosemary berubah jadi rasa cinta, Well, in this case, cinta monyet mungkin lebih tepat. Gabe juga ngerasa kalau Rosemary punya perasaan yang sama, in the end Gabe memberanikan diri untuk ngungkapin perasaannya pada Rosemary, yang ternyata cuman nggangep Gabe hanya sebagai teman. And it crashing Gabe’s heart.

Ada satu quote dari Gabe yang gua suka “Love is an ugly, terrible business practiced by fools. It’ll trample your heart and leave you bleeding on the floor. And what does it really get you in the end? Nothing but a few incredible memories that you can’t ever shake. The truth is, there’s gonna be other girls out there. I mean, I hope. But I’m never gonna get another first love. That one is always gonna be her.”

Well, our first love/love story doesn’t always have to be a happy ending, right? even the bitter one gonna be a sweet moment to remember. Bahkan di cerita cinta paling abadi sepanjang masa pun. Do you know that Juliet pun bukan cinta pertama Romeo?? no no no.. cinta pertama Romeo adalah Rosaline..
It’s not a very tale yang selalu dimulai dengan “once upon a time” dan diakhiri dengan “they live happily ever after“.  I think there’s no such thing as live happily ever after, life goes up and down,  I mean it what life’s all about, right? sometimes it hard and bitter, sometimes it taste like sugar, sometimes it turns you upside down, sometimes it makes you fly up to the sky. 
But, yes, we’re not gonna get another first love, our first love will gonna be one person and one person only. He/she will always gonna be there .
